EC Tales From the Crypt #39 Cover Silverprint Proof (EC, 1953). One of our favorite Tales From the Crypt covers was this Jack Davis-drawn spooky graveyard scene of a madman chasing kids away, with a razor-sharp dagger in his hand. Yow! This is the original 1953 Silverprint proof of that cover, prepared same as published size and hand-colored (by either editor Al Feldstein of EC colorist Marie Severin) as a guide to the printer. A sheet with hand-written printer instructions is attached with staples and folded back, and two areas on the proof are marked is ink, with a small border section cut away in the upper right corner. Overall condition is Very Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
