    Description

Calico Mine Ride Sign (1960). The first major ride of Knott's Berry Farm was Bud Hurlbut famous Calico Mine Ride. It opened to acclaim in November 1960 and was an immediate success -- more than one million tickets were sold in a mere eight months. The ride was built at a cost of close to $1 million, but it turned a profit by Summer 1962. This is the historic sign that hung in the front of the ride. It measures 168" x 12". This is one long sign made out of wood, and given a distressed look. It has split and will need some restoration. One of the most important pieces in this auction! Good condition.
