    Description

APA-5 Near-Complete Early Run Box Lot of 62 (1971-1980). Frank Miller wasn't the only future comics creator who got his start in the pages of this APA (Amateur Press Association). The issues offered here also have contributions by future comic artists like Paul Chadwick and Randy Emberlin and well-known fans like Jim Vadeboncoeur Jr., and the whole thing was started by Mark Verheiden, now a successful TV writer. Why was it called APA-5? Well, one of the original members tells us that this was a temporary name that wound up sticking and was based on the (erroneous!) belief that only four comics-related APAs had preceded it. These were photocopied and/or mimeographed and only sent to members of the association, meaning only 30 or 40 copies of each issue were ever made. This lot of two chock-full short boxes includes issues 1-48, 50-61, 95, and 96. Condition averages VG, though a couple of these staple-bound issues have a separated page or two. Note that the APA was mailed looseleaf, but these copies are stapled and trimmed, giving the future owner more assurance that all the various pages are present. Not listed in Overstreet. From the Jim Vadeboncoeur, Jr. Collection.
