    Description

"The Amazing Adventures of Mickey Mouse" Unproduced Feature Film Script (Walt Disney, 1939). In the book The Disney That Never Was, Charles Solomon writes on page 38, "Although he remained popular as a character, Mickey Mouse appeared in fewer and fewer cartoons during the 1930s and 1940s. He was the victim of his own popularity. In an effort to please his many fans, the artist gradually transformed the rowdy scamp of Steamboat Willie into a politely-behaved nice guy who acted as a straight man for the funnier and more flexible Donald, Goofy, and Pluto." This is an official Walt Disney Studio Script Library Copy of a proposed feature-length animated feature film for Mickey, called "The Amazing Adventures of Mickey Mouse." Written by Al Perkins and Dick Creedon, it is dated December 22, 1939, housed in a bound folder that reads "Art Props Permanent File Copy." The first page of this typed onionskin paper script reads, "Herewith first draft of a possible Mickey Feature Story having a slightly different approach from the one sent you last week. This version, the gang gets mixed up with a screwy scientist who takes them back into the past in a rocket ship. Once there, their problem is how to get home." This feature film also would have starred Donald Duck and Goofy. The script is just over 200 pages -- this was a serious effort! With both Fantasia and Pinocchio in development, and then a strike and World War II on the horizon, this elaborate script effort wound up not seeing the light of day. This folder has a heading on top that also reads "Circulating Copy." The typed script is approximately 11" x 9". Minor handling and aging. In Good condition.
