"It's a Small World" Disneyland Ride "Blue Hair Boy" Statue (Walt Disney, 1964). John Canemaker writes in his book Magic, Color, Flair: The World of Mary Blair, "In 1963, Walt Disney came back into Mary Blair's life with new creative challenges that would bring her art into the worlds of ceramics, sculpture, huge murals, collage, and three dimensional audio-animatronics." Mary Blair's crowning Disney achievement is her work with this ride, which premiered at the 1964 New York World's Fair on 4/22/64. After its incredible run of success, it reopened in Disneyland on 5/28/66. Today, this attraction can be found in Disney Theme Parks in Orlando, Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. This is an actual "Blue Hair Boy" statue that was in the original Disneyland "It's A Small World" attraction. It was removed during the 2008 renovation that closed the ride from January to November of that year; it was refurbished and given to the Mary Blair Family Trust by Marty Sklar. It has been a major part of all Mary Blair art exhibits globally. It also can be seen in John Canemaker's book, described above, on page 160. This is an incredibly important item for Mary Blair collectors. This rare attraction component stands 24.5" x 15" x 12". Included is a folded original August 8, 1963 press release that announces to the public a preview in New York that showcased plans and a scale model for this attraction at the New York World's Fair. Minor handling wear. Very Good condition. From the Mary Blair Family Trust Archives.Auction Info
