    Description

Playboy #1 (HMH Publishing, 1953) CGC VF/NM 9.0 White pages. The condition of this copy places it in elite company -- only five copies have been certified with higher grades by CGC to date. The premiere issue, of course, is famous for its Marilyn Monroe cover and her "Sweetheart of the Month" two-page poster, but what set the new magazine apart from others was the breadth of its presentation -- the fiction (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle), the cartoons ("VIP On Sex" by Virgil Partch in this issue), the non-fiction (a Big Band article featuring Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey), and Sports ("The Return of the All-Purpose Back"). The most recent copy of the iconic issue to be auctioned in this grade realized over $20,000. Not listed in Overstreet. CGC census 8/16: 2 in 9.0, 5 higher.
