    Description

Playboy #1 (HMH Publishing, 1953) CGC GD/VG 3.0 Off-white to white pages. With an initial print run of approximately 50,000 copies and the uncertainty that there would even be a second issue, Playboy grew to a circulation of over 5,000,000 by 1967. It all started here with the Marilyn Monroe cover and "Sweetheart of the Month" two-page poster and the type of features that encouraged actually reading the articles: including a Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey bio, "VIP On Sex" by Virgil Partch, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle fiction (Sherlock Holmes). Not listed in Overstreet. CGC census 2/20: 19 in 3.0, 180 higher.
