    Description

Playboy #2 (HMH Publishing, 1954) CGC FN/VF 7.0 Off-white to white pages. What do you do for an encore when you've played your Marilyn Monroe "card"? The jury was still out on the fledgling publication, and the print run of Playboy #2 was still limited in comparison to what it would become in just a few short months. That MM was part of the first issue may have meant purchasers of issue #2 were less likely to save the issue. That might explain why high-grade copies of #2 seem rarer. CGC advises there are only seven copies of #2 that have been certified nicer than 7.0 to date -- contrasted to more than double that number of copies of #1 that have been certified nicer than 8.0!
Fiction by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and a feature by noted comic strip artist and writer Milt Caniff are highlights. CGC census 3/12: 7 in 7.0, 7 higher. From the Nat Geo Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
