Description

Playboy #1 Signed by Hugh Hefner (HMH Publishing, 1953) CGC VG/FN 5.0 Off-white to white pages. This nice copy of Playboy's premiere issue has an outstanding example of founder Hugh Hefner's autograph, carefully signed in a white area beside the iconic Marilyn Monroe cover photo. The autograph has been certified an exemplary grade of "10" by noted authenticator PSA/DNA. The Monroe poster inside was the forerunner of the Playmate of the Month centerfold that was soon to become synonymous with the magazine. Other features in this issue included an article on Big Band superstars Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, a cartoon presentation "VIP On Sex" by Virgil Partch, and fiction by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes). CGC notes, "'Hugh Hefner' written on cover in marker." And that's a good thing! Not listed in Overstreet. CGC census 6/18: 20 in 5.0, 82 higher.
