Playboy #1 (HMH Publishing, 1953) CGC VG+ 4.5 White pages. If the price for a high-grade copy of this historic premiere issue is a bit daunting, this could be the copy for you! The page quality is the collector-ideal, and the groundbreaking image of Marilyn Monroe shines brightly on the front cover. The print run of the issue is estimated to have been about 50,000 copies, a fraction of the typical comic book title of the day, just to give you an idea of the magazine's scarcity. Besides the "Sweetheart of the Month" two-page poster of MM, the issue had a timely feature on Big Band-era brothers Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, "VIP On Sex" by renowned cartoonist Virgil Partch, and Sherlock Holmes fiction by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Not listed in Overstreet. CGC census 1/15: 5 in 4.5, 65 higher.
