Description

Playboy #1-12 Bound Volume (HMH Publishing, 1953-54). This bound volume appears to have come from Playboy's own archives, judging by the quality of the magazine copies used, which appear to be file copies, and the professional brown leather binding, with the Playboy logo and gold lettering on the spine. Here are the the first 12 issues of the groundbreaking magazine, most notably the first issue with its famous Marilyn Monroe cover and the even more famous nude poster. Other highlights of the first year of publication include fiction by Ray Bradbury (including the serialization of Fahrenheit 451), Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Erskine Caldwell, and W. Somerset Maugham; a Gina Lollobrigida pictorial; celebrity features on Bob Hope, the Dorsey Brothers, and Louis Armstrong; cartoons from the greatest cartoonists of the day, including Virgil "VIP" Partch; and, of course, those earliest of Playmates. The volume is about Fine, with some minor wear along the spine and corners. The individual magazines have been trimmed in the binding process, but otherwise average Fine to Very Fine. Page 3 of the first issue has been cleanly cut, perhaps accidentally, and taped neatly back in the magazine. "Photo Library" has been printed in marker onto the front and spine of the bound volume. The page quality of the magazines ranges from off-white to white.
