Description
La Vie Parrisienne Group of 31 (1930) Condition: Average FN. Includes 31 issues, all from 1930, of the vintage French magazine. Meaning "the Parisian life" La Vie Parrisienne was a French weekly magazine founded in Paris in 1863 and was published continually until 1970. Popular at the start of the 20th century. Originally covering novels, sports, theater, music, and the arts, in 1905 the magazine changed hands and changed its format to suit a more modern reader, evolving into a mildly risqué erotic publication. During World War I, General Pershing personally warned American servicemen against purchasing the magazine, which, of course, boosted its popularity in the United States. The artwork reflected the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, mirroring the aesthetic of the age, as well as the values, and this, coupled with the intellectualism, wit, and satire of its written contributions, was a combination that proved irresistible to the French public. A few have spine splits, but the average is FN condition.Auction Info
