Description

Star Ranger #10 Mile High pedigree (Centaur, 1938) CGC VF+ 8.5 White pages. The gag here is... death by hanging? That extremely odd concept would make this issue the object of collector curiosity all by itself, but how about the condition of this copy -- we're talking about a book that pre-dates Action #1! This is the only copy graded above 5.0 by CGC as of this writing, and we were interested to see that this issue, bought quite early in Edgar Church's collecting career, has "Church" lightly penciled on the cover. The cover art is by Fred Schwab, and there's interior art by Jack Cole. By the way, this issue, also known as V2#10, is tied with Funny Pages #6 and Funny Picture Stories #6 as the first comic published by Centaur, who purchased it indirectly from Harry Chesler. Overstreet 2006 VF 8.0 value = $544; VF/NM 9.0 value = $860. CGC census 8/06: 1 in 8.5, none higher. From the John McLaughlin Collection.
