    Description

Superman #1 (DC, 1939) CGC GD 2.0 Cream to off-white pages. One of the most sought-after issues of all is extremely difficult to find in an unrestored state. Of the 66 times we've offered a copy of Superman #1 over the past 18 years, only 22 copies have earned the blue "Universal" label of a complete and unrestored copy! And only eight copies we've offered have been in higher grade than our present offering! The first eponymous issue came little more than a year after Superman's first appearance in Action Comics #1, the book that essentially launched the Golden Age of Comics. The origin story in that book was reprinted here along with four pages that didn't make the cut the first time around. Another highlight is the pin-up of Superman on the back cover by co-creator Joe Shuster, who also contributed the front cover and interior art. The book is firmly ensconced in the #3 position on Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics list, behind only Action Comics #1 and Detective Comics #27. CGC notes, "Cover detached. Small amount of dried glue on spine of cover & first wrap. Tape on interior cover." Overstreet 2019 GD 2.0 value = $100,000. CGC census 11/19: 8 in 2.0, 24 higher.
