Top-Notch Comics #22 Mile High Pedigree (MLJ, 1941) CGC NM 9.4 White pages. This unassuming issue has a little secret we're about to reveal! Not really a secret, since one collector in-the-know plunked down over $4,000 just a year ago for a CGC-graded VG- 3.5 copy! Very curious, considering the Overstreet 2019 NM- 9.2 value was only $1,400! The issue was on sale October 10, 1941, five days before its immensely more popular MLJ-mate Pep Comics #22 hit the stands. Serious Golden Age collectors know that issue as having the first full appearance of Archie Andrews, but an ad for Pep Comics #22 actually appeared in this earlier Top-Notch issue, with Archie himself hawking the upcoming feature. So, technically Archie first appeared right here! We've provided an image of the ad page online for your perusal. We've offered this issue only twice previously over the years, so it's not an issue often found in any grade. CGC has certified just four Universal label copies and only two above the aforementioned 3.5 copy. The Mile High Copy blows the others away at 9.4! Overstreet 2019 NM- 9.2 value = $1,400. CGC census 8/19: 1 in 9.4, none higher.
