Description

Phantom Lady #17 (Fox Features Syndicate, 1948) CGC FN- 5.5 Pink pages. Overstreet notes the classic Matt Baker bondage cover on this issue. The striking image did not escape the critical eye of Fredric Wertham either, as he spoke of this book in his scathing study of the comic industry, Seduction of the Innocent. Wertham wrote of "Sexual stimulation by combining 'headlights' with the sadist's dream of tying up a woman." When this book was printed, Fox Features (or rather Victor S. Fox) was using the cheapest paper that they could get their hands on, hence the pink page designation here. Overstreet 2017 FN 6.0 value = $3,900. CGC census 2/18: 6 in 5.5, 32 higher.
