Mystery Men Comics #1 Windy City pedigree (Fox, 1939) CGC FN+ 6.5 Light tan to off-white pages. Rex Dexter of Mars comes through the window to rescue the damsel in distress from the psychotic doctor in this dramatic Lou Fine cover. It is hard to overstate the importance of this book containing, as it does, the first appearance of the popular Fox characters: Blue Beetle, Green Mask, and Rex Dexter of Mars. Additionally, the artistry of Lou Fine has been the inspiration for numerous comic artists from Murphy Anderson to Gil Kane, because of Fine's mastery of both line and form along with his unearthly understanding of human anatomy. All these are evident in the contorted facial muscles of the fiendish doctor, his unholy grip on the knife, and the dramatic folds in his shirt. Truly a book that you can appreciate for the aesthetics as well as importance. This Windy City comic has bright colors. According to the CGC census, this is the highest graded certified copy. Overstreet 2002 FN 6.0 value = $2,883.
