More Fun Comics #55 (DC, 1940) CGC VG 4.0 Slightly brittle pages. A difficult book to find in any unrestored grade, allowing it to sell for multiples of its Guide values. The was the first appearance of Doctor Fate, as well as the fourth appearance of the Spectre, whose ongoing cover appearances begin. The cover is by Bernard Baily, and story art is by Baily and Howard Sherman. The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books rates this issue a "7" ("scarce") on its Scarcity Index. A hot book, it is currently tied for #57 on Overstreet's list of Top 100 Golden Age Comics -- having risen 17 notches over the past five years! Overstreet 2024 VG 4.0 value = $6,800.
