    Description

Marvel Mystery Comics #5 (Timely, 1940) CGC VG 4.0 Off-white to white pages. This the toughest issue of Marvel Mystery to find! It's the only Marvel Mystery that Gerber gives his "7" or "scarce" rating to. Overstreet also calls it "scarce" and ranks it among the 30 most valuable Golden Age comics. This is just the second time the Human Torch appeared on a cover, and note that his look here is a lot closer to the way he's usually portrayed than the way he looked on the cover of Marvel Comics #1. Of course, his own series was still about six months away according to Overstreet. The cover art by Alex Schomburg is a classic and one of his first efforts for Timely... of course Timely had only published a handful of comic issues at this time. Overstreet 2013 VG 4.0 value = $5,700. CGC census 2/14: 4 in 4.0, 7 higher.
