Marvel Comics #1 (Timely, 1939) CGC Apparent FN 6.0 Extensive (P) Off-white to white pages. More often found with restoration than without these days, this book is a must-have in any grade for the serious Marvel collector, and this is a nice, solid copy. This issue has "First" written all over it (not literally!): the first Timely comic, and thus the first Marvel comic; the first appearances of the Human Torch, Ka-Zar, the Masked Raider, Jungle Terror, and the Angel; and the first newsstand appearance of the Sub-Mariner. The cover is by legendary pulp artist Frank R. Paul, with interior art by Carl Burgos, Bill Everett, and Paul Gustavson.
It's currently the fifth most valuable comic book of all-time, just behind Action Comics #1, Detective Comics #27, Superman #1, and All-American Comics #16, and it's certainly the Holy Grail book for all hard-core Marvel fans. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: color touch, pieces added, tear seals, cover cleaned, interior lightened, reinforced, staples replaced." Overstreet 2013 GD 2.0 value = $21,500; VG 4.0 value = $43,000; FN 6.0 value = $64,500.
