Jack Kirby's Adventure Comics #82-90 Bound Volume With Interior Sketches Signed by Him (DC, 1943-44). This volume -- great set of copies of Adventure Comics #82-90 that have been trimmed and bound into a hardcover volume -- is spectacular enough to begin with, but a little something extra makes it unique: The contents were Kirby's personal copies that he arranged to have bound, with a pair of pencil sketches on the front flyleaf later added by him along with his signature in black felt tip.
The large, detailed sketches by Kirby feature Manhunter a great action pose over the top three-quarters of the page, above a sketch of the obscure Nazi villain Von Gruber "and His Big Bird" who fought the hero in #85. (Note his passing resemblance to Kirby's later creation, Baron Strucker.). Jack's signature is situated between the two.
Kirby more or less dominated the title at this point, with he and partner Joe Simon taking over duties on the re-invented Sandman with issue #72 and revamping the Manhunter with #73. Sandman and his sidekick, Sandy, would be the main feature and occupy the majority of the covers through issue #102, though Simon & Kirby would only work on the characters' stories through #91, and Manhunter's appearances would conclude with issue #92.
The front cover of issue #82 appears to have detached and been repaired with tape; otherwise, the comics are in nice condition with bright covers, mild wear, and moderate tanning found mostly on the interior covers. Overstreet 2011 VG 4.0 value for comics = $2,214.
