Fantastic Comics #3 Billy Wright pedigree (Fox, 1940) CGC FN- 5.5 White pages. You'll see this classic Lou Fine robot cover reproduced in books quite often, but try finding a copy of the actual comic book! We've only offered three previous copies in ten years, two of which were Poor. Note also that the only higher-graded copy is just one notch above this one at 6.0.
This cover is considered one of Fine's very best, and back when Comic Book Marketplace asked ace collectors for their favorite comic book covers, Fantastic #3 garnered a couple of mentions. Steve Carey noted "The image... is simply unforgettable." Jon Signorelli noted, "Fine [was] unencumbered by a collaborating artist; the detail is amazing, the robots simply pulp classics!"
We could scarcely hype the cover more but it could scarcely deserve it more -- look at it again, you'll notice something you didn't see the first time! As an aside, the backup feature Stardust the Super-Wizard was drawn (under a pseudonym) by cult-favorite artist Fletcher Hanks. Mike Benton notes that "[Hanks] gave his hero unlimited powers and unbelievable anatomy." Overstreet 2011 FN 6.0 value = $4,500. CGC census 2/12: 2 in 5.5, 1 higher.
