Detective Comics #39 (DC, 1940) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white to white pages. The best copy we have ever offered, and that's despite having handled many wonderful Detective Comics runs over the years -- not the least of which was the Christine Farrell Complete DC Collection, which, alas, had a restored copy of this one. This is just Robin's second adventure in Detective Comics, having debuted in the issue before. It contains an opium story and the first appearance of Clayface on the last page of the Batman story. A full-page ad for Batman #1 is inside. Overstreet 2024 VF 8.0 value = $11,400; VF/NM 9.0 value = $20,700. CGC census 1/25: 2 in 8.5, 1 higher. From the Lester Schilke Collection.CGC Grader Notes:
