Description
Detective Comics #33 (DC, 1939) CGC Apparent NM 9.4 Extensive (A-5) Off-white pages. In the 800+ issue run, only issue #1 and issue #27 have higher Overstreet values that #33.This is the single highest-graded copy. This artistically accomplished, professionally restored comic book is the product of many hours of intricate artisanship, once unseen on the vintage comic book market. As recently as 2015, extensively restored comic books seldom received grades above 9.0. Higher grades are now seen on the market.
This benchmark book has the first told origin of Batman to go with the classic cover by Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson (just Batman's fourth cover appearance). He was a rougher, tougher Batman back then, as evidenced by the gun holster he's wearing on the cover, while inside, a story ends with our hero holding... a smoking gun!
Kane, Sheldon Moldoff, and Fred Guardineer art. Currently ranked #16 on Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics list. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: color touch, pieces added, tear seals, cleaned, centerfold reinforced, staples replaced." Overstreet 2018 GD 2.0 value = $12,000; VG 4.0 value = $24,000; FN 6.0 value = $36,000; VF 8.0 value = $75,000; VF/NM 9.0 value = $132,500; NM- 9.2 value = $190,000.
