Detective Comics #31 (DC, 1939) CGC VG/FN 5.0 Cream to off-white pages. In the storied run of DC's namesake title, only issue #27 is more valuable. This one comes in at #10 (tied) on Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics list. It has a lots of firsts -- first appearances of the Batplane, the Batarang, Julie Madison, and Batman's first super-powered foe, the Monk -- but it's the classic Bob Kane cover that really sets this issue apart. In fact, this is the single best comic book cover of the Golden Age according to a poll of collectors conducted by Heritage and CGC in 2016. It's also pretty rare in this grade -- we haven't seen a higher-graded certified copy since we offered the Davis Crippen "D" Copy nearly 11 years ago! In our most recent Signature auction, a FR 1.0 copy realized over $40,000! Overstreet 2020 VG 4.0 value = $65,000; FN 6.0 value = $97,500. CGC census 10/20: 5 in 5.0, 7 higher.
