Description

Detective Comics #29 (DC, 1939) CGC Apparent VF- 7.5 Extensive (P) Cream to off-white pages. Two issues after Batman makes his historical debut, he makes his second-ever cover appearance. This "killer" Bob Kane cover is rendered in an eerie style that easily distinguishes Batman from his colorful counterpart, Superman. One of the famous "pre-Robin" Detectives, this third appearance of the Dark Knight clearly shows a character in slow evolution -- Kane himself said it took a good year to get Batman's style down. This cover also features Batman's first named villain, Doctor Death, in this the first issue of a two-part story. Early Batman Detectives like this have been in high demand, and will most likely continue to appreciate in value. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: color touch, pieces added, tear seals, cleaned, reinforced." The cover is quite clean and extremely attractive, as is the spine and back cover. Overstreet 2003 GD 2.0 value = $2,733; VG 4.0 value = $5,466.
