Captain America Comics #1 (Timely, 1941) CGC FN 6.0 Cream to off-white pages. With a brutal blow for democracy, on this cover, Captain America brought the world of Timely Comics into World War II, as he planted a solid right hook on ol' Adolf himself! In this book, released almost a full year before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Timely set up their super-stories in the reality-based world of Axis and Allies, and set a tone that they would keep until well after the war's end in 1945. Certainly one of the most important books of the Golden Age, this is a very solid mid-grade copy, with a 3" corner crease on the back cover, a rubber stamp mark at the bottom of the back cover and only a few imperfections along the spine keeping the book from achieving a loftier grade. This is a sharp, clean copy of an always desirable comic, with bright cover inks and plenty of eye-appeal. Overstreet 2014 FN 6.0 value = $39,000. CGC census 11/14: 7 in 6.0, 26 higher. From the Prospect Mountain Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
