Batman #1 (DC, 1940) CGC VG- 3.5 Off-white pages. When you looked at our image just now, we're betting you mentally graded this book much higher than 3.5. We certainly did, as this copy presents extremely well on both front and back covers. If you look at other books graded 3.5 on our website, you'll tend to see things like smudging, pencil markings, major color breaks, edge tears etc. or major page quality issues, all things this copy doesn't have.
For that matter, scroll down on this very page and click the link to see other Batman #1s we have auctioned in various grades. Compare this copy to other specimens that were graded higher, even much higher, and we think you'll see this one very much holds its own in the eye appeal department.
And of course, demand is very high for Batman #1, a book that it's fair to say has reached top pop-culture collectible status. The Caped Crusader got his own title following his run in Detective Comics that began just a year earlier. Just as they had done for the premiere Detective appearance, co-creator Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson teamed up for another iconic cover and for the story art in this issue. Featured in the issue are the first appearances of the Joker and the Cat (aka Catwoman), and a killer back cover pin-up of Batman and Robin.
If you don't yet have a Batman #1 and can't stomach the mid-six-figure prices a mid- or high-grade copy would fetch, this copy, sold without reserve, is an appealing choice indeed.
    Overstreet 2016 VG 4.0 value = $54,000. CGC census 2/17: 7 in 3.5, 38 higher.
