    Description

Adventure Comics #40 (DC, 1939) CGC Apparent VF 8.0 Moderate (P) Cream to off-white pages. Currently ranked #11 on Overstreet's list of the most valuable comic books, this issue features the Sandman's debut in this title. Overstreet calls the book "rare," a designation the Guide doesn't often use, and indeed this issue is considered among the hardest to find of the Golden Age keys. The striking cover, showing Sandman doing what he does best, is by Creig Flessel. Sandman's first published appearance was in New York World's Fair 1939, but this issue's story is believed to have been created before that one. Bert Christman, who later met his death in World War II, was the artist on the feature. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: color touch, pieces added, tear seals, reinforced." Overstreet 2005 GD 2.0 value = $4,375; VG 4.0 value = $8,750; FN 6.0 value = $13,125; VF 8.0 value = $31,000.
