Star Spangled War Stories 1-150 almost complete set (DC, 1952). DCs "Big Five" war titles are considered by many a high point in comic book publishing. Offered here is a beautiful set of Star Spangled War Stories that is nearly complete from #131(#1) to #150 only missing one single issue, #31 which is not a key issue. Conditions vary widely on this lot, but we will try to give a fairly good estimate. #1 is FR, #2 is GD #3-6 average VG, #7-9 average GD, #10-13 average VG, #14 is FN- and #15 is FN+. #16-30 range from GD to VG, 32-44 average a nice VG or better, #45 (First DC greytone cover) is FN, #46 is VF, #47-89 average VG with varying grades; for every GD there is a FN to make up for it. #90 (First Dinosaur issue) is GD, but the rest of the Dinosaur series #91-137 average VG or a little better. #138-150 (Enemy Ace issues) average FN. Overall, a very nice set in mid-grade with very few really low grade copies, and many higher grade books. Overstreet 2002 approximate value for group = $4,000.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
