    Description

Shock SuspenStories #1 Gaines File pedigree 2/11 Plus Original "Gaines File Copies" Box (EC, 1952) CGC NM/MT 9.8 Off-white to white pages. The entire run of "#2" copies of this series is offered beginning with this lot, and included with this first lot is the sturdy box from the original sale.
A quick recap for new collectors: when Bill Gaines' file copies were first prepared for sale, each copy was ranked from best to "worst" by Bob Overstreet (Gaines had kept 11 or 12 copies of most, though not all, issues). The sets of numbers 1 through 5 were then sold as sets (in boxes like the one offered here), while later numbers were sold as individual issues or kept by Gaines.
The electrocution cover is by Al Feldstein. Inside this issue Gaines asked "Know of anything more shocking than an electric chair?" No, we do not. Overstreet 2011 NM- 9.2 value = $1,550. CGC census 4/12: 5 in 9.8, 1 higher.
