    Description

Red Raven Comics #1 Mile High pedigree (Timely, 1940) CGC VF/NM 9.0 White pages. Among Timely Golden Age titles, this historic one-shot was preceded only by Marvel Comics, hitting the newsstands before the first issues of such well-known, classic titles as Captain America Comics, Sub-Mariner Comics, and Human Torch Comics. Matter of fact, after this premiere issue, the numbering sequence was assumed by Human Torch Comics. Red Raven Comics #1 is fraught with historical significance, as it features Jack Kirby's first signed work, his pioneering, distinctive stylings on the cover the first of countless renderings that earned him "King" status among generations of comic fandom.
The original purchaser of Edgar Church's collection, Chuck Rozanski of Mile High Comics, felt this was a special issue -- it's been in his hands for decades, never offered until now. We think it's an undervalued issue, but this copy will certainly open some eyes! It's the rare high-grade copy of an issue that's rated "scarce" by The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books -- we've sold a mere four Universal (unrestored) copies over the past 10 years, and CGC's graded a grand total of five copies nicer than FN 6.5, just three others nicer than VG+ 4.5 to date!
Other classic Golden Age artists contributing here are Joe Simon, Dick Briefer, and Louis Cazeneuve, but make no mistake -- this iconic comic book is really all about Jack "King" Kirby, and this copy's all about the most renowned comic pedigree ever. Overstreet 2011 VF/NM 9.0 value = $16,700; NM- 9.2 value = $24,000. CGC census 11/11: 2 in 9.0, 1 higher.
