National Comics #1 (Quality, 1940) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white pages. It's the highest-graded copy of this issue to be certified by CGC to date - beating out even a Mile High copy. Uncle Sam, one of the earliest patriotic superheroes to hit the newsstands, makes his first appearance here - only the Shield precedes him, and Captain America wouldn't debut for another eight months. This book doesn't surface for sale very often, and only 11 unrestored copies appear on CGC's census to date. Cover by Lou Fine. Art by George Tuska, Henry Kiefer, Klaus Nordling, and Will Eisner. Overstreet 2014 VF 8.0 value = $4,460; VF/NM 9.0 value = $7,880. CGC census 8/14: 1 in 8.5, none higher.
