Tojo takes one on the jaw on the cover of this simply gorgeous pedigreed Timely. No other publisher did Japanese WWII covers quite like Timely did, and despite the lack of top-tier characters in this book, the cover is one of the best from the period. From Captain Wonder's smoking machine gun, to the viewscreen on the periscope, the detail in Syd Shore's work is just captivating.This first issue featured the origin of Captain Wonder and his sidekick Tim Mullrooney; Some of the characters from the Young Allies also make crossover appearances inside. One of the most intriguing aspects of this book is a character named Subbie who appears to be a diminutive version of Timely's top tier Sub-Mariner character. Basil Wolverton also contributed seven pages of his distinctive art to this book.
