Pep Comics #22 (MLJ, 1941) CBCS GD/VG 3.0 Off-white pages. Comics' first patriotic superhero, the Shield, and the Hangman dominate the Irv Novick World War II cover that manages to work in both the Nazi and Rising Sun emblems in a dynamic scene. But it's the interior of this issue that makes this one of the most sought-after Golden Age books, with the first appearance of Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, and Jughead Jones. It's been a hot book on Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics list in recent years climbing 26 places over the past 10 years to its most recent slot of #9. This is the highest-graded unrestored copy we've offered in seven years. Interior art by Novick and Bob Montana. CBCS notes, "Cover reattached with 3 pieces of tape. Moderate amount of tape on interior." Overstreet 2020 GD 2.0 value = $29,600; VG 4.0 value = $59,200.
    From the Riverdale Collection.
