Pogo Possum #1 Crowley Copy pedigree (Dell, 1949) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white pages. Walt Kelly's beloved swampland critters Pogo, Albert, Churchy, Howland, and Porky led a double life. In the original newspaper comic strip, Pogo was a thinly disguised political satire, serving up witty barbs on the doings of our leaders in Washington. In the short-lived Dell comic book series, Kelly (a long-time writer and illustrator of children's comic books), threw out the politics for pure fun and slapstick. As a result, the 16 Pogo Possum issues (plus two earlier Four Color issues) are perhaps the funniest things Kelly ever did. This classic first issue is among the best of the bunch, and this incredible pedigreed copy is quite possibly the finest in existence, if current CGC records are any indication. Overstreet 2005 NM- 9.2 value = $700. CGC census 6/05: 1 in 9.4, none higher.
