    Description

Detective Comics #33 (DC, 1939) CGC VF 8.0 Cream to off-white pages. In the nearly 900-issue run, only issues #27, 29, and 31 have higher Overstreet values than #33, and over the past 13+ years, we have only sold one copy in a higher grade than this gem! Overstreet ranks this issue #17 on its Top 100 Golden Age Comics list. The benchmark book has the first told origin of Batman wrapped inside a classic cover by Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson. It was an unkinder, grittier Batman then -- note the gun holster on the cover. Inside, one story ends with our hero holding a smoking gun! This was just Batman's fourth cover appearance ever. Kane, Sheldon Moldoff, and Fred Guardineer provided interior art. The last CGC-graded 8.0 issue to be auctioned went for over $68,000, well over Overstreet's guide value. Overstreet 2014 VF 8.0 value = $52,500. CGC census 5/15: 3 in 8.0, 3 higher.
