Detective Comics #27 (DC, 1939) CBCS Restored VG+ 4.5 Extensive Amateur Off-white pages. It's been nearly a year since we last offered a copy of this issue, which depending on your allegiance (Superman vs. Batman), is either the most important or, at worst, the second most important comic book of all-time. If Action Comics #1 marked the dawn of the Golden Age of Comics, this issue, which came out a year later, gave the fledgling superhero comic medium tremendous additional impetus. It's estimated that about half of the existing copies of the iconic issue have been restored, but still the collector demand for copies remains unabated. Over the past four years in our own auctions, restored copies have averaged nearly $100,000 in winning bids, and the value keeps climbing!

The "firsts" here include the first appearance and origin of Batman, as well as the first appearance of Commissioner James "Jim" Gordon. Co-creator Bob Kane provided the cover art and interior art, along with Fred Guardineer and Superman co-creator Joe Shuster. Of this copy, CBCS notes, "Amateur Restoration includes: Moderate amount of color touch on cover, pieces added, tear seals, cover & interior reinforced, cover & staples cleaned. Right & bottom edge of interior trimmed." Overstreet 2015 GD 2.0 value = $110,000; VG 4.0 value = $220,000.
