Detective Comics #18 (DC, 1938) CGC FR 1.0 Brittle pages. This was Creig Flessel's last cover for this series, but his last effort was perhaps his best. And note that while early issues of Detective had a character similar to Fu Manchu, this is the actual Sax Rohmer character here. He appears in a story as well, continued from the previous issue. Other features include Slam Bradley, Speed Saunders, Larry Steele, and Cosmo. Steve Malone also begins a titular run here. The artists in the issue include Batman's creator Bob Kane, Superman's co-creator Joe Shuster (partnered once again with writer Jerry Siegel), as well as Leo O'Mealia and Fred Guardineer. The issue is a Gerber "7", or "scarce." CGC notes, "1st and 2nd page detached. (Tape on cover.)" Overstreet 2015 GD 2.0 value = $1,600. CGC census 3/16: 3 in 1.0, 14 higher.
