Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies Comics #1 (Dell, 1941) CGC NM- 9.2 Off-white pages. To understand how amazing the 9.2 grade is here, try finding even a mid-grade copy! We hadn't seen this important book in better than mid-grade in our eight-plus years of auctioning comics, and the nicest ones we have turned up have fetched prices like the $6,325 paid for a FN- 5.5.

This issue has the first comic book appearances of no less than four household-name characters: Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Elmer Fudd. Two big reasons for the lack of high-grade copies are 1) the fact that more younger kids read these than read the superhero books and 2) the yellow background front and back, which can't help but pick up smudging and discoloration, or so we thought. We're frankly surprised that this issue exists in this grade at all. Overstreet 2009 NM- 9.2 value = $21,000. CGC census 4/10: 1 in 9.2, none higher.
