Captain America Comics #74 (Timely, 1949) CBCS FN- 5.5 Off-white pages. This was the first of two issues in the series that were titled Captain America's Weird Tales, as declining sales of Captain America caused Timely to inject horror elements into the series. It proved to be an apt title: In this issue Cap fought the villainous Red Skull in hell! This is one of the most scarce and sought-after of all Timelys. Overstreet lists it as "scarce" and Gerber's Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books gives it an "8" on the scarcity index, meaning that there are only an estimated 20 copies or less to be had. Though this copy exhibits wear at the corners, the book has a clean appearance and deep red and green cover inks. Overstreet 2015 FN 6.0 value = $3,900. CGC census 3/16: 4 in 5.5, 12 higher.
