Captain America Comics #1 (Timely, 1941) CGC FN- 5.5 Cream to off-white pages. This will always be considered one of the most desirable comics in the hobby, primarily due to the fact that it has one of the most famous covers of all time! It also sits in the #7 spot on Overstreet's list of the Top 100 Golden Age Comics! It's the origin and first appearance of Captain America and Bucky, by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, and it's also the first appearance of the evil Red Skull. Of course there's some guest villainy by that even more nefarious nasty, Hitler, as well. We have only seen two unrestored copies of this book in the past three years and they were a 6.0 and a 6.5 copy. CGC notes, "2 pieces of tape on centerfold." Overstreet 2014 FN 6.0 value = $39,000. CGC census 5/15: 2 in 5.5, 33 higher.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
