Archie Comics #1 (Archie, 1942) CBCS VG 4.0 Slightly brittle pages. A cultural phenomenon, Archie garnered public attention late in 1941, first appearing in Pep Comics #22, and within a year he had his own title, which is still in print today. Archie and his Riverdale High gang have been a part of America's youth for four generations now, and during the last 20 years, Archie #1 has seen formidable growth in the market, as collectors realize the historical importance and rarity that this book has come to represent in comicdom, and in all of the years that Heritage has been auctioning comics, we have offered only two unrestored copies that have had higher grades than this amazing specimen. CGC notes, "Slightly brittle pages", but it's significant that this copy is "natural", unlike many copies we've seen, with no restoration whatsoever. It's the first Archie solo comic, the first full Archie cover in comics, and the first appearance of Mrs. Andrews. Bob Montana delivered the classic cover, a story, and interior art for the book that's currently tied for the #15 spot on Overstreet's list of the Top 100 Golden Age Comics. Joe Edwards art. Look for multiples of Guide value when considering bidding on this rare piece of Americana! Overstreet 2016 VG 4.0 value = $21,000. CGC census 11/16: 4 in 4.0, 9 higher.
