    Description

Adventure Comics #40 (DC, 1939) CGC VG- 3.5 Off-white to white pages. This Creig Flessel cover introduced the world to the Sandman, who made his Adventure Comics debut here (believed to be the first Sandman story ever created, while his New York World's Fair Comics appearance was first to be published). This issue is listed as "rare" by Overstreet and currently sits at #14 on their Top 100 Golden Age Comics list. Unrestored copies of this issue seem to be particularly hard to find, so don't let this nicely accessible copy slip through your fingers... like the sands of time! CGC notes, "Cover detached." Overstreet 2013 VG 4.0 value = $12,667. CGC census 5/14: 2 in 3.5, 15 higher.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
