    Description

Action Comics #23 (DC, 1940) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white to white pages. A lovely specimen of this early Superman book that is currently topped by none! This issue heralded the first appearance of one of the greatest super-villains of all time, Lex Luthor (who actually appears with red hair). It's also the first mention of Clark Kent's employer for the next 75 years, The Daily Planet. Joe Shuster provided the cover and interior art for the book, and Sheldon Moldoff, Bernard Baily, and Fred Guardineer also contributed interior art. Currently tied for the #43 spot on Overstreet's list of Top 100 Golden Age Comics. Overstreet 2019 VF 8.0 value = $31,000; VF/NM 9.0 value = $50,500. CGC census 3/20: 2 in 8.5, none higher.
