All-Star Western #10 (DC, 1972) Condition: VF-. In the dying days of the Western, DC introduced what might have been the best Western character ever, Jonah Hex. This issue, Hex's first appearance, has soared in value, making it all the way onto Overstreet's list of the ten most valuable Bronze Age books. The bounty hunter with a mean streak a mile wide was at his very best in the hands of this issue's creative team, writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga (a key point in the early stories was that Hex's scarred face was only seen by whomever he was about to kill). Also worthy of a mention is a (much) gentler gunfighter, Bat Lash, who appears in a backup feature drawn by Nick Cardy. Overstreet 2004 VF 8.0 value = $278. From the collection of Chris Bell.
