The Show of Violence - First Edition (Doubleday, 1949). Known primarily by comic book collectors as the author of the influential Seduction of the Innocent, published in 1954, child psychologist Dr. Frederic Wertham had authored three earlier works. This one was published in 1948, a strong precursor to his more famous work. The Show of Violence documented the case studies of troubled New York youths, attacking comic books, movies, and other forms of the media for contributing to the delinquency thereof. The book is in very nice condition, about FN/VF in comic book terminology. The dust jacket, which includes a picture of Dr. Wertham, has some wear around the edges. A handwritten inscription in ink on the first page reads: "To William Auerbach-Levy who made for me such a beautiful drawing. Frederic Wertham. May 1949."
