Isaac Asimov. I, Robot. New York: Gnome Press, 1950. First edition. Inscribed by the author on title-page, "To David / Isaac Asimov / 6 Jan 78." Octavo (8 x 5.375 inches; 203 x 135 mm.). 253, [3, blank] pages. Publisher's full red cloth, spine lettered in black, front with small black robot ornament at center; edges of text block trimmed; original illustrated dust jacket, first issue with $2.50 price at front flap. Very slight skew to binding; spine ends pushed, cloth a bit dusty and thinning; mild rubbing to boards; handful of small drip stains to front board; bottom edges lightly worn with some slight bumping; cloth worn through or split at corners and rear joint; corners bumped. Light age yellowing to text block; some small scuff marks at edges; corners just a touch softened; occasional small area of discoloration. First gathering sprung but still sound; faint discoloration at endpapers from binder's glue; one or two instances of marginal specks of soiling scattered throughout. Minimal fading to jacket spine panel, with a touch of color correction at head of rear panel fold, bleeding through to verso; mild wear to spine ends resulting in some slight curling and soft creasing, along with a touch of rubbing to title and small pencil gouge just below robot; very light rubbing to exposed panels, with a couple spots of thumbsoiling at rear; mild wear to joint and flap folds, causing a few specks of color loss; flap fold ends just a bit worn, top of rear fold bumped. Overall, a near fine copy of this science fiction classic. "Nine 'positronic' robot stories, originally published 1940-1950, with new material added for continuity. Contains Asimov's famous Three Laws of Robotics..." (Barron). Barron, Anatomy of Wonder (1987), 3-20. Currey, p. 17.
