Publisher's full tan cloth, Currey A priority with publisher's monogram stamped in blind on rear, spine lettered in black, front stamped in red and black; bottom edge trimmed, others untrimmed. Spine skewed; spine ends just barely pushed with a trace of wear; slight wear along joints; general, mild soiling to boards; minor shelf wear to board edges; corners bumped. Normal mild age dulling to edges (less so to interior) of text block; top and fore-edges a bit frayed from rough opening; front hinge partially and rear hinge fully split, both still sound; previous owner signature and bookplate to front free endpaper, label removed from upper corner of front pastedown offsett onto facing page; faint thumbsoilng scattered occasionally throughout at margins. Very good. Housed in custom green cloth chemise in one-quarter green morocco book-backed slipcase. "Wells emphasizes... that only a fragile shell of civilization restrains humanity from its natural bestiality.
