Small octavo. 250, [2, blank] pages (note: 5 leaves proceed first numbered leaf, [13]-14, so possibly lacking an additional preliminary leaf). Publisher's full maroon paper-covered boards, spine and front stamped in gilt; all edges trimmed; original illustrated dust jacket. Significant lean to spine; spine ends fairly pushed and worn, with short splits starting at either end of both joints, gilt stamping darkened; boards lightly rubbed, with small spot at front where surface of paper is torn up; fair amount of wear to board edges; corners tapped. Expected age tanning to edges and interior of text block; top edge darkened; previous owner signature at front pastedown; first leaf detached and laid in; possibly lacking front free endpaper and one or more preliminary leaves; partial spine splits scattered throughout, though text block still sound. Jacket heavily restored, with spine and front flap fold renewed and a handful of chips and tears closed and repaired; color correction and facsimile text applied over restorations; tanned tape integrated into repairs at verso. Very good. From the Glynn and Suzanne Crain Collection.

With four photographic stills from the 1931 film starring Bela Lugosi inserted as plates. Publisher's full red cloth, front and spine lettered in black; all edges trimmed, top edge stained green; original illustrated dust jacket, publisher's catalog printed on verso. Spine ends slightly pushed, specks of dark soiling along backstrip and joints; slightest trace of shelf wear at bottom edges; corners slightly worn, top two tapped. Mild dulling of paper stock from age; series of small abrasions to bottom and fore-edges of text block; small area of faint soiling at bottom; previous owner signature at front pastedown; mild thumbsoiling at front and rear free endpapers. Fairly extensive chipping at head and foot of spine panel, those at head repaired with facsimile title text supplied and affixed with tape; spine panel rippled with soft creasing at joints; general tanning and rubbing to exposed panels; flap folds creased and chipped at ends; tape removed at head of rear flap, resulting in rectangle of paper loss; browned tape repairs at verso of spine panel. Near fine book in a very good jacket. From the Glynn and Suzanne Crain Collection.
